MAGNOLIA, Arkansas –
Southern Arkansas limited the University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team to just one run in both games of Wednesday's Great American Conference rivalry double-header to beat the Blossoms by final scores of 3-1 and 7-1.

The Blossoms (16-7, 8-4 GAC) broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning of the first game on a bases-loaded single from true freshman Aubree Head with no outs. However, the rally stopped there as SAU pitcher Jami Goodwin got outs in the next three at bats to leave three runners stranded at the end of the inning.

The Muleriders (16-11, 8-7 GAC) answered in the bottom of the fourth with three runs all on one swing, a homerun from nine-hole hitter Courtney Hudgins.

Both teams were held scoreless for the remainder of the game to give the Lady Muleriders the win in the opener. Junior Kali Piha and sophomore McKenzie Rice each had two hits for the Blossoms. Senior Katie Slaughter (8-2) took the loss in complete-game fashion, surrendering three runs off nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

In the nightcap, UAM jumped out to a quick lead with an RBI fielder's choice from senior Lacy Blanchard in the top of the first inning.

Much like the first game, SAU answered UAM's single run with a three-run rally in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. The Muleriders added one run in the second, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to cap the double-header sweep.

SAU limited UAM to four hits in the second game.

The Blossoms are back in action this weekend at home in a four-game GAC series against East Central. It will be UAM's first home games of the season.
