ADA, Oklahoma –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team suffered a pair of losses to East Central on Friday to open a three-game Great American Conference series. Final scores were 9-7 and 3-1.

Junior Evan Comeau paced the Weevils offense in both games, tying a career-high in the first game with a 4-for-6 outing and going 2-for-3 in the nightcap, all singles.

The Weevils (12-16, 9-12 GAC) and Tigers (19-13, 10-8 GAC) matched each other in the first two innings with single runs in each frame. ECU took a 3-2 lead in the third before using a four-run fourth to take a 7-3 lead. The Tigers added single runs in each of the fifth and seventh innings and eventually held a 9-3 lead going into the ninth and final frame.

UAM rallied to score four runs in the ninth off five hits, a walk and a hit batter. The Weevils had four straight run producing at bats in the rally

In addition to Comeau's four hits, the Weevils had three others post multi-hit performances. Redshirt freshman Brian Ray went 2-for-6, junior Corey Wood went 2-for-4 and junior Mitchell Dornblut went 2-for-2.

In the second game, ECU pitcher Oscar Gomez (5-0) went the distance for the Tigers, allowing just one run with 10 strikeouts. The Tigers scored one in the second inning and two in the sixth. Gomez held UAM's 3-6 hitters hitless throughout the contest.

Other than Comeau, Senior Bronson Gillam also posted a multi-hit performance for the Weevils, going 2-for-3.

UAM can avoid being swept in a GAC series for the second straight weekend by beating the Tigers on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon.
