BETHANY, Oklahoma –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team and Southern Nazarene University opened a four-game Great American Conference series on Friday with the Crimson Storm coming away victorious in both ends of the double-header. Final scores were 4-3 and 14-10.

In the first game, the Crimson Storm (16-21, 12-13 GAC) took a 2-0 lead with single runs in each of the first and fourth innings before the Blossoms (18-17, 10-14 GAC) rallied to take the lead with three runs in the top half of the fifth inning. That three-run rally was highlighted by an RBI double by junior Kali Piha and a sacrifice fly from sophomore McKenzie Rice.

SNU rallied with two outs in the seventh to get the win with two runs off three hits.

Piha and sophomore Allison Stipes combined to account for four of UAM's six hits. Piha went 2-for-4. Stipes went 2-for-3.

The second game featured a slugfest with a combined 24 runs and 33 hits. SNU outhit UAM 21-12 in the nightcap. The Crimson Storm also took advantage of four UAM fielding errors to score a pair of unearned runs.

The Blossoms combined for four homeruns and a total of six extra base hits in the game two loss. Junior Holly Wilmarth finished the game a double away from hitting for the cycle with a 3-for-4 outing. She singled in the first, hit a two-run triple in the third and smashed her ninth homerun of the year with a solo shot to center field to lead off the sixth inning.

UAM's other homeruns came from McKenzie Rice (three-run in the fifth), Piha (solo in the first) and senior Sydney Tipton (two-run in the fifth).

The Blossoms and Crimson Storm wrap up the four-game set with a double-header on Saturday starting at noon.
