@UAMSOFTBALL BLASTS FIVE HOMERS IN LOSING EFFORT

Game 1 Box Score (HTML) | Game 2 Box Score (HTML)

MONTICELLO –
The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team combined to hit five homeruns in a pair of Great American Conference road losses to Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday. The Blossoms lost the first game 4-2 before dropping the second half of the twin bill 6-5.

In the first game, the Savage Storm (17-16, 13-5 GAC) capitalized off a UAM error in the bottom of the first to score four unearned runs to take an early lead. However, Blossoms pitcher Katie Slaughter (9-4) kept Southeastern off the board for the remainder of the game and ended up with four strikeouts and just one walk.

UAM's scoring in the first game came off a pair of leadoff solo homerun runs. Junior Kali Piha opened the fourth inning with a round-tripper to left center before senior teammate Sydney Tipton cut the final deficit in half with a solo shot to center to start the seventh.

Those homeruns represented two-thirds off UAM's total hits in the loss, as Southeastern pitcher Jacee Bennett (10-7) held the Blossoms to just three hits with seven strikeouts and one walk in her complete-game victory.

In the second game, the Blossoms (17-12, 9-9 GAC) had been held to just one hit in the first five innings before hanging a pair of crooked numbers on the scoreboard in the last two innings, again using the long ball.

Junior Holly Wilmarth started the rally with a two-run homerun to left center in the top of the sixth to end the shutout. Piha and Tipton continued their lively power displays with back-to-back jacks with two outs in the seventh. Piha's was a two-run shot to left, and Tipton's was of the solo variety to left center.

The Blossoms and Savage Storm conclude the four-game set with a double-header on Friday starting at 1 p.m.
