@UAMVOLLEYBALL BEATS A&M-COMMERCE FOR FIRST WIN

DENTON, Texas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team secured its first victory of the 2015 season on Friday with a four-set win over A&M-Commerce at the Texas Woman's Hilton Garden Inn Classic.

Final game scores were 25-17, 25-23, 21-25 and 25-16. It was first-year UAM head coach Kelly Burdeau's first win after joining the program just over a month ago.

The Blossoms were led by three players in double-digits in the kills category. Junior Carolina Gasparini recorded a match-high 16 kills and only had four errors for a .324 hitting percentage. She also added 12 digs in the win for her first double-double at UAM. The Porto Ferreira, Brazil native was responsible for 23 points in the win after also picking up six service aces and two block assists in addition to her kills.

Senior Sydni Schulz added 12 kills and 16 digs for her first double-double of the season and the seventh of her UAM career. Senior Kedra Johnson also reached double-figures with 10 kills on 16 swings.

Junior Alissya Theis paced the UAM offensive attack with 42 assists in the win, the first 40-assist performance for the Blossoms since the first game of the 2012 season.

Senior Lani Kaiwi equaled Schulz's 16 kills to tie for the match-high in the category.

The Blossoms are back in action on Saturday in the TWU Hilton Garden Inn Classic against Cameron at 9:30 a.m. and against Texas A&M-International at 2:30 p.m. Live stats of those two matches can be found at www.UAMsports.com/coverage.aspx
