BETHANY, OKLA. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team was defeated by the Crimson Storm of Southern Nazarene University Saturday afternoon in a Great American Conference match-up on the road.
Final game scores from the match were 25-23, 25-23, and 25-13.
The Blossoms (8-13, 4-5 GAC) contested Southern Nazarene (11-8, 6-3 GAC) heavily early on in this match-up as each team held multiple leads throughout the opening set. The Crimson Storm totaled four kills to capture the last points needed to clinch the first set over UAM on a 4-2 run by SNU. Set number two brought more of the same intensity between the two programs as each team traded multiple lead changes once again, but SNU gained the upper hand due to multiple errors by the Blossoms to see Southern Nazarene take set two 25-23. The third and final set of the match saw the Crimson Storm open play on a 15-3 run and only continued from there to take the set at 25-13 and the match at 3-0.
As a team, Arkansas-Monticello finished the match with 30 kills on 97 attempts for a .124 percentage, compared to Southern Nazarene who totaled 44 kills on 99 swings for a .283 hitting percentage.
Leading the offense on the day was Carolina Gasparini, Aubrey Harrison, and Shay Mitchell who all totaled seven kills a piece in the contest.
Kya Standford led the defensive front with two solo blocks and Harrison added two block assists to her stat-line as well. Macy Mitchell and Elizabeth Harshaw each tallied 10 overall digs in the match-up to aid the defensive effort also.
Setter Kendall Vondra led UAM in overall assists with 27 on the day and totaled four digs in the match.
The Blossoms will be back in action next on Friday, October 21 as they host the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State in a GAC match-up, with first serve set for 6 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
