MONTICELLO - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team defeated Great American Conference foe Southeastern Oklahoma State University Friday night with a five-set victory over the Savage Storm at home.
Final game scores from the match were 25-23, 21-25, 25-17, 16-25, and 20-18.
The Blossoms (9-13, 5-5 GAC) outlasted the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma (8-15, 1-9 GAC) in a grueling five-set contest with each team trading off set wins during the match. UAM opened up the match-up with a set one victory after finishing off SOSU on a 3-1 run to claim the opening set. Arkansas-Monticello gained the 2-1 set advantage after a 6-1 run late in the contest, gave the Blossoms the overall lead by taking set three, 25-17. UAM dropped set four to Southeastern Oklahoma State, but staged a comeback late in set five being down one point, went on a 4-1 run to ultimately claim victory over SOSU with a 20-18 set five win.
Senior Carolina Gasparini led UAM on the night with a double-double, 15 overall kills and 11 total digs. Gasparini posted a hitting percentage of .259 in the contest on 54 total attempts.
Aubrey Harrison and Shay Mitchell each tallied 13 kills in the match-up and Harrison recorded a team-high .343 hitting percentage to help guide the offense.
Freshman setter Kendall Vondra finished the match with 49 total assists, and senior Kya Standford and junior Macy Mitchell led the Blossoms defensively as Standford added three solo blocks and one block assist to her stat-line and Mitchell led UAM with 27 overall digs.
Arkansas-Monticello will hit the court again tomorrow, Saturday, October 22, as UAM hosts the Tigers of East Central in a GAC match-up with first serve scheduled for 12 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
