RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team was defeated by Great American Conference opponent Arkansas Tech University Tuesday night on the road in a four-set match.
Final game scores from the match were 15-25, 25-15, 25-15, and 25-22 in favor of the Golden Suns.
The Blossoms (11-14, 7-6 GAC) controlled the pace of the match early on in set number one as UAM downed the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech (19-10, 9-4 GAC), 25-15 in the opening set on multiple kills by both Shay Mitchell and Maggie Pyles. Arkansas Tech fired back in the following two sets, holding Arkansas-Monticello to 15 points in each. UAM went on a 12-4 run midway through the fourth set to take a 21-18 lead over the Golden Suns, but ATU overcame the Blossom comeback to win the set at 25-22 and the match at 3-1.
Junior Shay Mitchell and freshman Maggie Pyles each totaled eight kills in the contest to lead Arkansas-Monticello, while Aubrey Harrison, Carolina Gasparini, and Vanessa Pawlak finished the match with seven kills a piece as well.
The junior Harrison also led UAM on the defensive side of the ball with one solo block and three block assists in the match-up.
Freshman setter Kendall Vondra tallied a match-high 35 total assists and added 11 digs to her stat-line as well.
Arkansas-Monticello returns to action next on Thursday, November 3 as UAM will travel to take on GAC foe Ouachita Baptist in Arkadelphia, Arkansas with first serve set for 6 p.m.
