SEARCY, Arkansas - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team was defeated by Great American Conference opponent Harding University Thursday night on the road in a four-set contest.
Final game scores from the match were 25-16, 24-26, 25-15, and 25-14 in favor of the Bisons.
The Blossoms (12-16, 8-8 GAC) after dropping the opening set of the match to Harding (21-7, 12-4 GAC), powered ahead in set two to defeat the Bisons and tie up the match at 1-1. UAM began set two on a 7-3 run to lead HU, but the home team staged a comeback and went on to lead the Blossoms late in the set. Arkansas-Monticello recorded four straight points after multiple errors by Harding and two kills from Shay Mitchell saw UAM claim set two, 26-24. The Bisons controlled the pace of the final two sets however and was able to ride the momentum to victory over Arkansas-Monticello at 3-1.
Freshman Maggie Pyles finished the night with a team-high 12 kills in the match-up on 31 total attempts for a .290 hitting percentage. Junior Shay Mitchell totaled double digit kills in the contest as well with 10 overall and added six digs to her stat-line.
Freshman Kendall Vondra provided 35 total assists in the match, along with nine digs and one service ace.
Junior Macy Mitchell led Arkansas-Monticello on the defensive side of the ball with a match-high 19 digs and also recorded one service ace.
UAM will be back in action next as the Blossoms advance into the post-season on Thursday, November 17 in the Great American Conference Tournament which will be played in Hot Springs, Arkansas, and match times will be available once the GAC standings have been finalized.
