@UAMWBB OPENS SEASON WITH WIN OVER CBU

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team officially opened the 2016-17 regular season Friday evening with a 68-51 victory over Christian Brothers University at home. 

Arkansas-Monticello (1-0, 0-0 GAC) was finally able to create separation towards the end of the opening half against the Buccaneers of CBU (0-1, 0-0 GSC), after a 10-2 run gave the Blossoms a 30-21 lead. UAM went on to use the momentum swing in its favor into the second half with a 24-7 run that began in the third quarter and ran into the fourth to seal off the victory over Christian Brothers, 68-51. 

Final team statistics on the night for UAM included shooting 42 percent from the field (25-for-59), 36 percent on three-pointers (8-for-22) and 59 percent on free throws (10-for-17). The Buccaneers ended the contest at 35 percent from the field (18-for-51), 20 percent beyond the arc (5-for-25) and 83 percent on foul shots (10-for-12).

Sophomores Ayesha Wahid and Regerina Baker each led Arkansas-Monticello on the offensive side of the ball with 16 points a piece. Baker also recorded 11 rebounds in her first game as a Blossom for the double-double and Wahid knocked down four three-pointers in the match-up as well. 

Junior Brittnee Broadway turned in an impressive stat-line also with nine points, seven assists and six rebounds on the evening. 

The Blossoms will be back in action tomorrow, Saturday, November 12 as UAM will square off against the Crusaders of Dallas Christian College inside Steelman Field House with tip-off scheduled for 5 p.m.
