MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team officially began the 2016-17 regular season with a victory over non-conference opponent Dallas Christian College by a final score of 103-74.
The Weevils (1-0, 0-0 GAC) after being closely contested midway through the first half, created a 13-2 run to lead the Crusaders 37-20 after multiple scores from five different Weevils. Arkansas-Monticello continued its high pace of play into the second half as UAM began to separate from DCC and ultimately taking the game, 103-74.
Leading Arkansas-Monticello offensively was junior Derylton Hill who finished the night with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting from the field. Hill also pulled down seven total rebounds in the game and added two steals and one block to his stat-line.
Cobe Goosby (19), Karim Mawunyega (13), Troy Thomas (11), and Vicktor Arnick (10) all finished the game scoring in double figures as well for the Weevils. Goosby went on to lead Arkansas-Monticello in rebounds with nine and total assists with six in the game.
UAM finished the contest shooting 60 percent from the field (38-for-63), 29 percent from beyond the arc (4-for-14) and 64 percent on free throws (23-for-36). DCC ended the match-up at 42 percent from the field (28-for-66), 44 percent on threes (12-for-27) and 46 percent on foul shots (6-for-13).
Arkansas-Monticello will return to action next on Thursday, November 17 as the Weevils open up Great American Conference play against the Savage Storm of Southeastern Oklahoma State inside Steelman Field House with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
