MONTICELLO - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team took down Great American Conference opponent Henderson State University Tuesday night at home on senior night by a final score of 3-1.
Final game scores from the match were 25-21, 23-25, 25-22 and 25-21.
Arkansas-Monticello (12-15, 8-7 GAC) and the Reddies of Henderson State (12-15, 7-8 GAC) each put up strong defensive fronts in this match-up as neither team finished to record a hitting percentage above .200 and the two squads combined for 18 overall blocks in the match, UAM totaling nine and HSU totaling nine as well. All four sets played were tightly contested as each team generated multiple point runs late in sets to lead these GAC rivals to set victories. The Blossoms ultimately fueled ahead after taking a 2-1 set lead in the match, and used the momentum to create several multiple point runs in the fourth set to claim the match victory at 3-1 overall.
Senior Carolina Gasparini finished with the top performance of the evening offensively, totaling a match-high 17 kills and contributed 16 digs as well, and one service ace.
Fellow senior Kya Standford ended the night in double figures in kills as well with 10 overall and led the Blossoms defensive front against HSU with two solo blocks and four block assists for six total blocks. Junior Macy Mitchell aided the defensive effort as well leading the Blossoms in overall digs with 27, and tallied two service aces also.
Freshman setter Kendall Vondra provided a match-high 42 total assists, along with 10 digs, one kill, and two service aces.
The Blossoms will hit the court next on Thursday, November 10 as UAM will travel to take on GAC opponent Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas with first serve set for 6 p.m., in the final contest of the 2016 regular season.
