Weatherford, OK — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team was defeated in the first game of its Oklahoma road trip by Great American Conference opponent Southwestern Oklahoma State by a final score of 78-56.
Arkansas-Monticello (3-2, 1-2 GAC) struggled to find any rhythm throughout this contest as the Bulldogs of SWOSU (4-2, 2-1 GAC) controlled much of the pace of this conference match-up, leading the Blossoms after the opening quarter, 19-6. UAM found much more scoring success in the second half of play however but was not enough to overcome the large first half deficit as Southwestern Oklahoma claimed the victory, 78-56 by the final buzzer.
Final team statistics on the night for the Blossoms included shooting 29 percent from the field (20-for-68), 29 percent on three-pointers (6-for-21) and 71 percent on free throws (10-for-14). The Bulldogs ended the game at 44 percent from the field (30-for-68), 27 percent on three's (6-for-22) and 71 percent on foul shots (12-for-17).
UAM was led by sophomore Ayesha Wahid with 15 total points on 6-for-14 shooting from the field. Wahid added five rebounds and two steals to her overall stat-line as well.
Juniors Brittnee Broadway and Treasure Evans both ended the evening with nine points each as well and Evans contributed five rebounds to the Blossom defensive effort also, senior Nelsha Peterson led Arkansas-Monticello on the glass in the match-up with seven boards.
The Blossoms will return to action next on Saturday, December 3 as Arkansas-Monticello travels to Alva, Oklahoma to take on the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State in a GAC showdown with tip-off scheduled for 1 p.m.
