@WEEVILSBASEBALL DROPS GAC OPENER TO SNU

BETHANY, Oklahoma – Southern Nazarene rallied for three runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to record a 5-4 come-from-behind win over the University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team on Friday in the first Great American Conference game of the 2016 season.

UAM (4-5, 0-1 GAC) plated its runs in the second and third innings, the first coming on an RBI single from freshman Jake Bever in the top of the second inning.

After SNU responded with one run in the bottom of the second to tie the score at 1-all, the Weevils answered with a three run third inning, highlighted by a two-run double from senior Travis Steinke. Senior Corey Wood was responsible for UAM's other run with a sacrifice fly earlier in the rally.

The Crimson Storm (1-9, 1-0 GAC) rallied for three runs off three hits and one walk in the eighth to force a 4-all tie headed to the ninth. The Weevils were set down in order in the top of the ninth before an RBI single by SNU's Dillon Feland in the bottom of the inning ended the game.

SNU finished the game with a 10-5 edge in the hit column. Steinke led the Weevils, going 2-for-4 at the plate.

The three-game series wraps up on Saturday with a double-header starting at noon.
