@WEEVILSBASEBALL WINS SERIES, SPLITS SATURDAY GAMES WITH BISON

MONTICELLO – The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team split a Great American Conference double-header with Oklahoma Baptist on Saturday at home with a 5-2 win in the first game and a 7-5 loss in the series finale.

The Weevils won the series two games to one for its second straight GAC series win in as many tries.

In the first game victory, the Weevils (8-6, 4-2 GAC) got on the board in the bottom of the second on an RBI fielder's choice by senior Evan Comeau, and added two more on a homerun from senior Mitchell Dornblut in the bottom of the third.

The Bison (10-4, 3-3 GAC) cut their deficit down to one run in the top of the fourth with a two-run homerun by Hunter Heath.

UAM went back to the long ball to finalize the scoring in the bottom of the seventh inning with a two-run homerun by senior Corey Wood.

Sophomore Braden Chambers (3-0) earned the win in first weekend start, allowing two runs off six hits with six strikeouts and two walks in the first seven innings. Junior Chad Bradford earned a two-inning save, his first of the season, after keeping the Bison scoreless on only two hits with two strikeouts and no walks.

In the second game, UAM took advantage of walks, hit batters and errors to hold a 3-0 lead after four innings. The Bison bats woke up in the fifth with four runs off five hits to give OBU its first lead of the series. The Bison maintained their lead throughout the rest of the game, despite UAM plating two runs off an error in the bottom of the seventh.

The Weevils return to action on Wednesday on the road against Delta State in a single non-conference game starting at 3 p.m. in Cleveland, Mississippi. UAM beat DSU 13-0 earlier this season in Monticello.
