WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma — Senior Jordan Goforth and freshman Ayesha Wahid accounted for 67 percent of the University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team's points to lead the Blossoms to an 87-85 Great American Conference road victory over Southwestern Oklahoma State on Thursday.
Goforth finished with 32 points, seven rebounds and five assists. It was her fifth game of the season with at least 30 points, and snapped a streak of four straight games under 20 points.
Wahid added 26 points, tying a career-high. Also reaching double-figures in scoring was sophomore Taylor Collins with 10 points. Senior Nikki Mullen set a new career-high in rebounding with 11, her first career game in double-figures in the category.
SWOSU (12-8, 8-6 GAC) controlled the first period, leading by as much as 11 points. The Blossoms (10-8, 7-7 GAC) responded in the second period by outscoring SWOSU 21-10 to eventually hold a two-point lead of 41-39 at the halftime break.
After the Bulldogs rallied to regain the lead at 56-55 midway through the third period, the Blossoms used a 14-4 scoring run to grab its largest lead of the game at 10 points just before the start of the final 10 minutes.
The Blossoms answered each SWOSU rally in the fourth period to never lose their lead. UAM eclipsed its previous largest lead by going up 11 on a layup from Goforth with 6:49 remaining in regulation.
This win is the second over SWOSU for the Blossoms this season. It snapped a nine-game home win streak for SWOSU and gave UAM its third road victory of the year.
UAM finished the game shooting 42 percent from the field (32-for-76), 44 percent on three-pointers (10-for-23) and 72 percent on foul shots (13-for-18). SWOSU shot 40 percent overall (30-for-76), 48 percent on treys (10-for-21) and 75 percent on foul shots (15-for-20).
Hailey Tucker led the Dawgs with 31 points. Janae Coffee led all players on the boards with 18 rebounds.
The Blossoms are back in action on Saturday at Northwestern Oklahoma State. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. in Alva.
