THREE HOMERUNS IN ONE INNING HIGHLIGHT @UAMSOFTBALL SPLIT

WEATHERFORD, Oklahoma — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team hit three homeruns in the top of the sixth inning of the first half of a Great American Conference double-header split with Southwestern Oklahoma State on Monday.

The Blossoms won the first game 7-5 thanks to that sixth-inning rally before losing the series finale 9-1 in six innings.

Down 5-3 to start the sixth inning, UAM rallied with a two-run homerun from junior shortstop Korie Parker, a solo homerun from sophomore first baseman Kelbe Callaway and a solo homerun from senior center fielder Holly Wilmarth.

UAM (17-9, 12-4 GAC) reached the board first on an RBI double from sophomore catcher Ashton Currey in the top of the second inning. The Bulldogs (6-20, 4-12 GAC) responded with a three-run rally in the third inning, highlighted by a two-run homerun from Taya Haney.

Both teams plated two runs in the fourth to keep SWOSU up by two runs. Both of UAM's runs in the fourth came on a single by Wilmarth to start her 2-for-4, three RBI performance.

Junior Mallory McWhorter (1-0) earned her first win of the year with three innings of scoreless relief, allowing only one hit and one walk while striking out three.

In the second game, UAM was only able to muster one run on five hits. Junior third baseman McKenzie Rice led off the second inning with a homerun to left center. The Blossoms left the bases loaded in the second and fourth innings, and left runners on second and third in the sixth.

The Bulldogs scored the majority of their runs in the middle innings, getting three homeruns combined in the second and third innings, and adding three more runs in the fourth.

Freshman right fielder Kali Bother and Parker were responsible for the other UAM hits in the loss, other than Rice's homerun. Bolter went 2-for-2. Parker went 2-for-3.

The Blossoms are back in action next weekend on the road against Henderson State. More information about that series will be released later in the week.
