ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team opened a four-game Great American Conference road series against Henderson State with a pair of losses to the Reddies by final scores of 4-2 and 14-4.
In the first game, both teams scored one run in the first inning. UAM (17-11, 12-6 GAC) took advantage of an error and a wild pitch to score its run, while the Reddies (15-15, 6-12 GAC) scored on an RBI single from Ashlyn White in the bottom half of the frame.
The final four combined runs came on homeruns. HSU's Ashlyn White ended up with nine RBI in the two games combined, including a three-run homerun in the third inning of game one.
UAM cut the deficit in half and finalized the scoring with a solo homerun by senior Kali Piha in the top of the sixth inning.
Junior Kendra Coleman (7-6) took the loss, but did record eight strikeouts throughout her complete-game.
In the second game, HSU scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first inning to jump out an early lead. The Reddies added four more on a pair of homeruns in the third, including a three-run shot from Ashlyn White.
The Blossoms got on the board in the third on a solo homerun by sophomore Ashton Currey and an RBI double from junior Korie Parker. In the fifth, junior McKenzie Rice finalized the scoring with a two-run homerun.
The series concludes on Sunday with a double-header starting at 1 p.m.
