ARKADELPHIA, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team was defeated twice by Henderson State on Sunday by final scores of 9-1 and 6-2.
In the first game, the Reddies (17-15, 8-12 Great American Conference) scored one run in each of the first and second innings, added three in the third on a three-run homerun by Morgan South, and took advantage of a UAM error and two walks for four in the fifth to win the series and set up the series sweep in the finale.
UAM (17-13, 12-8 GAC) scored its lone run in the top of the fourth on an RBI single from junior Katie Koen. UAM outhit HSU 8-7. Sophomore Skyler Anderson led the Blossoms with two hits in her only two at bats of the game.
In the series finale, the Blossoms again outhit HSU, this time 9-7, but the Reddies took advantage of four UAM errors to complete the four-game series sweep after winning both games of Saturday's double-header.
UAM's scoring came on back-to-back solo homeruns by junior McKenzie Rice and freshman Kali Bolter in the top of the sixth inning. Rice finished the game 2-for-3. Senior Kali Piha was 2-for-4. Koen was 2-for-2 with a walk.
The Blossoms are back in action this week in a four-game GAC series against Ouachita at home. More information about that series will be released in the coming days.
