@WEEVILSBASEBALL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT GAC SERIES

ALVA, Oklahoma — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team secured its third straight Great American Conference series victory in as many attempts by splitting with Northwestern Oklahoma State on Saturday.

The Weevils won the first game 7-2 before falling in the series finale 4-0. UAM beat the Rangers 4-3 in Friday's opener.

In the first game, the Weevils (11-7, 6-3 GAC) did most of their damage with a five-run fifth inning, highlighted by a two-run triple by senior Kevin Fitzpatrick. Junior Nick Piraino and sophomore Brian Ray also had run-producing at bats in the rally.

UAM opened the scoring by taking advantage of two errors and a walk to plate one run in the top of the third inning. UAM's final run came in in the top of the ninth on an RBI double by Fitzpatrick, who ended the game 3-for-5 with three extra-base hits. He accounted for half of UAM's total hits in the win.

Sophomore Braden Chambers (4-0) earned a complete-game victory on the mound, allowing two runs off five hits with eight strikeouts and two walks in nine innings. Ranging from the end of the fourth inning to the first two outs of the eighth, Chambers retired 12 straight NWOSU batters.

In the second game, the Weevils ended up out-hitting NWOSU 5-4, but only had a runner reach second base twice. Senior Evan Comeau went 2-for-2 with a walk to lead UAM in hitting.

The Rangers (7-13, 5-4 GAC) scored one in the second and three in the fifth.

The Weevils are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday, March 8 at Mississippi College for a single non-conference game starting at 2 p.m. in Clinton, Mississippi.
