ADA, Oklahoma — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team opened a four-game Great American Conference road series against East Central with a pair of losses on Friday, falling 10-2 in the first game and 5-2 in the second game.
The Blossoms (27-23, 21-17 GAC) opened the scoring in the first game on a solo home run from senior Kali Piha in the top of the first inning. UAM doubled that 1-0 lead in the third on an RBI single from junior Allison Stipes.
The Tigers (23-24, 20-16 GAC) took the lead with three runs in the second and added three more in the fifth to take a 6-2 lead. In the sixth, ECU added four more runs to end the game early.
ECU finished with a 12-5 margin in the hit column, and limited the Blossoms to only three base runners in the final four innings.
In the second game, ECU broke a scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the third inning and added two more in the fifth.
The Blossoms ended ECU's shutout bid with a two-run home run from freshman Kali Bolter in the top of the sixth inning. UAM outhit ECU 6-4 in the second game.
The two squads are back in action on Saturday with another double-header starting at noon.
