@UAMSOFTBALL SPLITS WITH SOUTHEASTERN TO OPEN SENIOR WEEKEND

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team opened its final home series of the 2016 season with a Great American Conference double-header split with Southeastern Oklahoma State on Saturday, losing the first game 3-1 and winning the second game 2-1.

In the first game, the Blossoms (29-25, 23-19 GAC) were limited to just one run, despite having runners in scoring position in five innings. UAM left a total of eight runners on base in the loss.

UAM's lone run came came on a home run from senior Holly Wilmarth in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Southeastern (28-20, 24-14 GAC) scored on an RBI single in the fourth for the first run by either team in the game. The Savage Storm added two more in the sixth on one single, a hit batter and a UAM error.

In the second game, both teams plated a run in the third inning. Southeastern opened the scoring on a solo home run from Mykaela Wallace. The Blossoms answered with a bases-loaded walk from senior Kali Piha in the bottom half of the inning.

Both teams were held scoreless in the fourth and fifth innings. Sophomore Ashton Currey led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run to left field to break the tie and put UAM up by its final margin of 2-1.

Senior Elizabeth Delafield (9-5) earned the complete-game win after giving up just one run off nine hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

The Blossoms honored their three seniors prior to the start of Saturday's double-header. Wilmarth, Piha and Delafield are all playing in the final home games of their UAM careers.

The series concludes on Sunday with a double-header starting at noon.
