MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team lost both games of a Sunday double-header against No. 5 Arkansas Tech by final scores of 7-0 and 6-3.
Arkansas Tech (36-3, 26-2 GAC) was led by Jalissa Gum in the first game. Gum (13-1) delivered a three-hit shutout in the circle with 10 strikeouts and only one walk, while also delivering a pair of two-run homeruns.
UAM's three, four and five hole hitters accounted for the team's three hits. Senior Kali Piha, sophomore Ashton Currey and junior Korie Parker all went 1-for-3.
In the series finale, both teams traded runs early, with UAM's taking a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the third on an RBI single from junior McKenzie Rice, who was responsible for UAM's first run of the game with a sac fly to left in the first.
Tech's Morgan Vaughan (14-0) kept the Blossoms scoreless throughout the remainder of the game. UAM (22-18, 17-13 GAC) reached second base only once in the final four innings.
The Golden Suns regained the lead in the top of the fifth with a two-run homerun from Destiny Crumpley, who was also responsible for Tech's first and last runs of the game with RBI singles in the first and seventh innings.
UAM had seven hits in the loss, led by two hits each for senior Holly Wilmarth and Parker.
The Blossoms close a 12-game home stand on Tuesday in a non-conference double-header against Delta State. First pitch is 2 p.m. at Blossoms Field.
