SEARCY, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team split a Great American Conference double-header on the road against Harding on Friday, losing the first game 6-5 and winning second game 8-6.
The Blossoms (24-20, 18-14 GAC) combined for four homeruns in Friday's double-header, one in the first game and three in the second half of the twin bill.
In the first game, the Lady Bisons (26-18, 18-14 GAC) jumped out a quick lead on a two-run homerun in the bottom of the first inning. UAM rallied to tie it up with two runs in the third on an RBI double from senior Holly Wilmarth and an RBI single by junior McKenzie Rice.
UAM went up 3-2 in the fifth on an RBI single by senior Kali Piha, but Harding regained the lead with two runs in the bottom half of the frame.
Harding hit hits second and third homeruns of the game in the fifth and seventh inning, respectively. UAM's first round-tripper of the day came in the top off the seventh, a two-run shot from junior Korie Parker.
UAM had nine hits in the loss. Parker and junior Katie Koen both went 2-for-3 at the plate.
In the second game, UAM took advantage of a pair of Harding errors in the top of the first inning to plate two runs and hold the early lead. That lead was short lived as the Lady Bisons scored two in the first and one in the second to hold a 3-2 margin.
The Blossoms rallied for the three runs in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run homerun from Piha. In the fourth, Parker hit her second homerun of the day, this time a solo shot to put her team up 6-3.
In the fifth, Wilmarth blasted her 11th homerun of the season with a two-run shot to put the Blossoms up 8-3. Harding scored two in the fifth and one in the sixth to finalize the scoring.
UAM totaled 13 hits in the win. Wilmarth, Parker, Piha, Rice, Koen and junior Allison Stipes all had two hits in the contest.
The Blossoms and Lady Bisons are back at it on Saturday in Searcy with a double-header starting at noon.
