@UAMVOLLEYBALL FALLS TO ARKANSAS TECH AT HOME

MONTICELLO - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team was taken down by the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech Thursday evening in a Great American Conference match-up at home. 

Final game scores from the match were 28-26, 25-20, and 25-22. 

The Blossoms (3-12, 1-4 GAC) battled in each of the three sets played tonight against ATU, unfortunately the Golden Suns (9-7, 4-1 GAC) found answers to the UAM attack each time. Arkansas-Monticello trailed 19-9 at one point in set number one but went on an 11-4 run to close to gap at 23-20. Tech finished off the opening set with three straight points to get the win at 28-26. Arkansas Tech capitalized on mistakes by UAM in set two, putting together small runs to claim the set at 25-20. The third and final set began with the Blossoms going on a 5-0 run to open the set up, however ATU countered with an 8-1 run of their own to reclaim the momentum. The Golden Suns never trailed throughout the remainder of the third set and closed out the match with a 25-22 set victory.

As a team, UAM finished the match with 34 kills on 100 attempts for a .180 percentage, compared to Arkansas Tech who totaled 42 kills on 106 swings for a .226 hitting percentage. 

Leading the offense on the night was Shay Mitchell with 11 total kills on 41 attempts, and Carolina Gasparini added eight kills of her own along with four service aces. 

Kya Standford led the defensive front on the night with a match-high four solo blocks and two block assists, and added six kills to her stat-line. Macy Mitchell and Kendall Vondra each led UAM in overall digs with 10 total. Vondra contributed a match-high 29 assists as well. 

The Blossoms will be back in action next on Tuesday, October 4 as they travel to Memphis, Tenn. to compete in the Christian Brothers Tri-Match where they will face Central Baptist at 5 p.m. and then take on Christian Brothers shortly after at 7 p.m.
