@UAMVOLLEYBALL SWEPT IN SECOND DAY AT SHARK INVITATIONAL

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team fell in both of its matches on Saturday during the final day of the Shark Invitational. The Blossoms began the day with a four-set loss to Lynn University and ended the afternoon with a three-set loss to Saint Leo University. 

In the morning loss to Lynn (3-1), the Blossoms (0-4) committed 12 total errors and complied a team hitting percentage of .244 in the match-up. UAM was led in the match by Carolina Gasparini on the offensive side of the ball with 13 total kills. Shay Mitchell contributed 11 kills of her own, along with a .258 hitting percentage. Kendall Vondra led the Blossoms in two stat columns with 27 assists and 16 total digs in the contest. 

The final game scores in the loss to Lynn were 25-17, 25-22, 22-25 and 25-15.

During the afternoon loss to Saint Leo University (4-0), UAM fell behind early as the Blossoms dropped set one but quickly showed dominance in set number two. Arkansas-Monticello started the second set on a 9-2 run but the Lions were able to battle back and claim the set in the end. The final game scores in the match-up against Saint Leo were 25-19, 25-23, and 25-17. 

Gasparini led the UAM offensive unit in this second match as she totaled 14 kills on 27 attempts for a .407 hitting percentage and added a team high 12 digs to her stat line as well. Vondra once again led the Blossoms in total assists with 23 and contributed 10 digs. Kya Stanford aided the defensive unit with three total blocks also.

UAM is back in action on Wednesday, September 7 in the 2016 home opener for the Blossoms against Lyon College with first serve set for 6 p.m.
