Arkadelphia, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team improved to 12-0 overall on the year with a 74-57 win over Great American Conference opponent Henderson State on the road Saturday afternoon.
The Weevils (12-0, 8-0 GAC) held a lead over the Reddies of Henderson State (11-3, 6-2 GAC) for over 30:00 minutes in this match-up, including a 39-33 lead at the half. Arkansas-Monticello knocked down shots in the opening half, shooting 48 percent overall. UAM continued its tenacious defense in the second half of play, holding the Reddies to just 24 points in the half, leading to the 74-57 victory for the Weevils 12th straight win.
Arkansas-Monticello offensively was led by junior Cobe Goosby who totaled 21 points, tying a career-high, on 9-of-15 shooting from the field. Goosby added four rebounds, one assist and one steal to his overall stat-line as well.
Juniors Derylton Hill and Tyrin Jones each provided double digit scoring days as Hill posted 15 points overall and Jones added 14 points of his own. Senior Vicktor Arnick led UAM on the glass as he was able to grab seven total rebounds in the match-up.
UAM finished the match-up shooting 49 percent from the field (28-for-57), 24 percent on three's (4-for-17) and 88 percent on foul shots (14-for-16). HSU ended the game at 34 percent from the field (19-for-56), 26 percent on three-pointers (5-for-19) and 88 percent from the free throw line (14-for-16).
The Weevils will be back on the court next on Monday, January 16 as UAM takes on GAC adversary Southern Arkansas on the road in Magnolia, Arkansas with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
