MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team was defeated by Great American Conference foe Arkansas Tech University Saturday afternoon by a final score of 82-57 inside Steelman Field House.
UAM (7-8, 4-7 GAC) struggled offensively against the Golden Suns of Arkansas Tech (13-2, 9-2 GAC) as the Blossoms were outscored by ATU at the half 45-21. The second half was all Arkansas Tech unfortunately with the Blossoms outscored 22-12 in the third quarter, leading to a Golden Suns victory at 82-57 overall.
Sophomore Ayesha Wahid, and junior Taylor Collins each led Arkansas-Monticello in scoring in the match-up with 16 points each. Wahid and Collins combined for six total made three-pointers and each recorded one steal and one assist in the game.
Sophomore Lacy Alford led the Blossoms in total rebounds in the match-up with five overall and Brittnee Broadway led the home squad in total assists, dishing out six.
Final team statistics in the game for UAM included shooting 37 percent from the field (18-for-49), 46 percent beyond the arc (6-for-13) and 75 percent on foul shots (15-for-20). The Golden Suns ended the match-up at 56 percent from the field (33-for-59), 45 percent on three-pointers (5-for-11) and 92 percent from the free throw line (11-for-12).
Arkansas-Monticello will be back in action next on Thursday, January 26 as the Blossoms hit the road to face GAC opponent East Central in Ada, Oklahoma with tip-off set for 5:30 p.m.
