MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team was defeated by Great American Conference opponent Southern Nazarene Thursday evening at home by a final score of 82-65.
Arkansas-Monticello (4-5, 1-4 GAC) battled close against the Crimson Storm of SNU (4-5, 1-4 GAC) in the opening quarter of play, holding an 18-17 lead over the visitors. Southern Nazarene outscored the Blossoms 24-10 in the following quarter and continued on to control the game down the stretch to earn the 82-65 victory against UAM.
Senior Nelsha Peterson posted a career day offensively with 27 total points in the game, shooting 11-for-23 overall from the field. Peterson added five rebounds, two blocks and two three-pointers to her overall stat-line as well.
Juniors Brittnee Broadway and Treasure Evans each recorded 11 points in the match-up and pulled down five rebounds and dished out two assists a piece as well.
Final team statistics in the contest for the Blossoms included shooting 36 percent from the field (24-for-67), 28 percent on three-pointers (5-for-18) and 92 percent on free throws (12-for-13). The Crimson Storm ended the game at 44 percent from the field (27-for-61), 25 percent on three's (3-for-12) and 81 percent on foul shots (25-for-31).
UAM will return to the court next on Saturday, January 7 as the Blossoms will host GAC adversary Oklahoma Baptist inside Steelman Field House with tip-off slated for 1 p.m.
