MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team set the UAM men's basketball record for best start in school history at 10-0 with a 74-54 victory over Great American Conference opponent Oklahoma Baptist Saturday afternoon at home.
Arkansas-Monticello (10-0, 6-0 GAC) set the pace in the first half of the game against the Bison of Oklahoma Baptist (4-6, 1-5 GAC) shooting 56 percent from the field and leading OKB by six at halftime. UAM pulled away even further as the second half played out with the Weevils opening up the scoring with multiple runs to defeat the visiting Bison by a 20 point margin at 74-54.
Leading the offensive unit during the afternoon was senior Vicktor Arnick with 17 total points, shooting 6-for-10 from the field and knocking down two three-pointers. Several other Weevils finished the day in double figures as Karim Mawuenyega (15), Derylton Hill (12), and Cobe Goosby (12) each posted double digit score lines.
Goosby went on to lead UAM in overall rebounding with nine total and Hill led the Weevils in total assists, dishing out six. Hill also added two blocks to his overall stat-line as well in the contest.
UAM finished the game shooting 47 percent from the field (26-for-55), 25 percent from beyond the arc (5-for-20) and 85 percent on free throws (17-for-20). OKB ended the contest at 34 percent from the field (20-for-58), 11 percent on three-pointers (2-for-18) and 67 percent from the charity stripe (12-for-18).
The Weevils will be back in action next on Thursday, January 12 as Arkansas-Monticello will square off against GAC opponent Harding University inside Steelman Field House with tip-off at 7:30 p.m.
