@UAMVOLLEYBALL DEFEATED IN FOUR SETS BY TWU

Denton, Texas -  The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team was defeated by non-conference opponent Texas Woman's University on the road Saturday evening by a score of 3-1.

  • Final set scores from the contest were 22-25, 16-25, 25-23, and 27-29 in favor of the Pioneers. 
  • UAM falls to 10-17 (2-10 GAC) on the season.
  • TWU improves to 11-15 (7-8 LSC) on the year.

  • The first set of this contest saw each program swapping points early on, but UAM was able to pull ahead with a 12-10 lead after five kills by Maggie Pyles.
  • Texas Woman's University created a 7-1 run late in the set to ultimately win it 25-22 and gain the early match advantage.

  • The Pioneers controlled the pace of the second set of play, as TWU never trailed against UAM and after generating two runs of 5-0, took set number two, 25-16.

  • UAM bounced back in set three, going on a 7-0 run against the Pioneers and was able to cut the match lead in half after the 25-23 set victory. 
  • Pyles aided the offensive attack in the set with nine total kills as well.

  • This last set featured each team fighting for an advantage as both went on to hold small leads throughout the fourth set.
  • The Pioneers ultimately scored three straight points to finish off the match for the 29-27 set victory, and the 3-1 match win.

  • Sophomore Maggie Pyles recorded a career-high 27 kills in the match-up and finished with a .292 hitting percentage.
  • Seniors Aubrey Harrison and Vanessa Pawlak finished with double digit kills with Harrison totaling 12, and Pawlak ending with 11. 
  • Toryn Cox finished the contest with a team-high 45 assists. 
  • Macy Mitchell led the defensive effort with a match-high 31 digs as well.

  • The Blossoms will return to action next on Tuesday, October 31 as UAM will face nationally ranked and undefeated Arkansas Tech (28-0, 12-0 GAC) at home in Monticello with first serve scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
