@UAMHOOPS DOMINATES TEXAS COLLEGE IN HOME OPENER

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team defeated Texas College in the 2017-18 home opener on Tuesday night by a final score of 110-59.

  • These two programs battled early on as the Weevils held a 12-11 lead over Texas College with 15:05 remaining in the opening half. 
  • UAM began to pull away late in the first half of play after a Tyrin Jones three-pointer pushed the home squad's lead out to 40-25 with just over five minutes left to play.
  • The Weevils continued to surge ahead on its big run late in this half, holding a 58-31 advantage over the Steers, as Karim Mawuenyega drove into the paint for the layup to see UAM out to a 27 point lead.

  • Arkansas-Monticello continued to ride its momentum from the first half into the second as the Weevils held a double-digit lead for the remainder of this contest.
  • The largest lead UAM saw in this game was at 104-49 with just over three minutes left in the match-up, as the Weevils took the victory over Texas College by a final of 110-59.
  • UAM as a team went on to shoot 62 percent overall from the field, as well as racking up 24 total assists on the night.
