JOHNSON LEADS @UAMWBB OVER PAUL QUINN COLLEGE

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team defeated Paul Quinn College in the 2017-18 home opener for the Blossoms, by a final score of 81-68.

  • The Blossoms jump to 4-2 (1-1 GAC) overall this year.
  • Paul Quinn falls to 3-4 on the season.

  • Charlynn Perry:  15 points, 2 rebounds
  • Taylor Collins:  14 points, 4 rebounds

  • The Tigers were on the board first in this match-up, but the Blossoms quickly took control of this game right after made shots from Brittnee Broadway, and Idalis Rubalcava. 
  • UAM went on to hold an 18-13 advantage over Paul Quinn through the opening quarter of play, and continued to use that momentum in the following period, jumping out to a 32-19 lead midway through it. 
  • The Blossoms capped off the scoring in the opening half of play with a three-pointer from Taylor Collins to push the UAM lead out to 46-27. 
  • Arkansas-Monticello finished the half shooting 55 percent overall from the field, including 46 percent from beyond the arc.

  • UAM continued to pour on the offense in the second half, as the Blossoms found its' biggest lead at 66-40 with just under a minute left after two made free throws by Nina Kizzee.
  • Paul Quinn College began to fight back in the fourth quarter however, closing the gap to just nine points at 77-68 with just 00:47 seconds remaining in the game.
  • Arkansas-Monticello ultimately sealed off the victory with free throws from Mackenzie Johnson as UAM won its' home opener, 81-68.

  • UAM will next face Southeastern Oklahoma State on Thursday, November 30 to open up GAC play this season, in Monticello at 5:30 p.m. inside Steelman Field House.
