@UAMHOOPS WINS BIG OVER EAST CENTRAL

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team dominated the Tigers of East Central at home Saturday afternoon, by a final score of 89-65.

  • UAM and ECU last met in the championship game of the 2017 GAC Championship Tournament, where the Tigers defeated UAM for the tournament title, however UAM came prepared and began turning the tide of this match-up in their favor midway through the first half. 
  • A pair of made free throws from Mawuenyega, and a fast-break layup from Goosby saw the Weevils take a 25-21 lead over East Central with just 06:42 left in the first half of play. 
  • Arkansas-Monticello continued to generate runs for the remainder of the half, holding a 39-26 advantage over the visiting Tigers at the half as well. 
  • The Weevils out-shot the Tigers from the field in the opening half as UAM posted a 50 percent shooting average, compared to East Central's 33 percent overall.

  • The Weevils continued to dominate in the second half, as UAM saw its' biggest lead of the day at 73-44 with just under eight minutes left in the game. 
  • The home squad ultimately sealed off this win at home by a score of 89-65, and securing a big conference win heading into the remaining non-conference December schedule.
  • UAM totaled 23 assists in this contest, along with forcing 12 steals to disrupt the ECU game plan and claim the victory over the visiting Tigers.

  • The Weevils will travel to Cleveland, Mississippi next on Saturday, December 9 to take on non-conference Delta State on the road, with tip-off scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
