@UAMHOOPS DOWNED BY SOUTHERN ARKANSAS AT HOME

MONTICELLO - The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team was taken down by Great American Conference rival Southern Arkansas Monday night at home by a final score of 73-58.

#17 Arkansas-Monticello (19-3, 15-3 GAC) struggled in the opening half of this match-up against SAU (11-13, 9-9 GAC), shooting only 30 percent from the floor, and only 17 percent overall from beyond the three point line. While the Weevils battled back after going on a 26-12 run to open the second half, UAM's shooting ultimately fell cold for the remainder of the contest as SAU pulled away for the 73-58 victory. 

UAM was led on the offensive side of the ball by junior Tyrin Jones with 16 points on 5-for-10 shooting from the field. Jones added six rebounds, four assists, and one steal to his stat-line as well.

Also in double scoring figures for Arkansas-Monticello included Karim Mawuenyega (13), Derylton Hill (11), and Troy Thomas (10). Hill went on to lead the Weevils with a game-high 15 rebounds on the night, and led UAM in steals with three total. 

Final team stats in the match-up for Arkansas-Monticello included 34 percent shooting from the field (22-for-64), 14 percent on three-pointers (3-for-21), and 61 percent on foul shots (11-for-18). The Muleriders finished the game shooting 47 percent (28-for-59) from the field, 40 percent on three's (6-for-15), and 52 percent from the free throw line (11-for-21).

The Weevils will be back in action next this Thursday, February 16 as UAM will travel to Russellville, Arkansas to face Arkansas Tech in a GAC showdown between the conference's top two programs with tip-off slated for 7:30 p.m.
