@UAMHOOPS COMEBACK FALLS SHORT IN RUSSELLVILLE

RUSSELLVILLE, Arkansas - The University of Arkansas at Monticello men's basketball team was defeated by Great American Conference opponent Arkansas Tech on the road by a final score of 92-86. 

#16 Arkansas-Monticello (19-4, 15-4 GAC) began the opening half against the Wonder Boys of ATU (19-4, 15-4 GAC) locked in a tight battle as each team was keeping pace with one another early on. Arkansas Tech started to pull away however due to its eight made three-pointers in the first half, compared to UAM's one.

The second half of play was all Wonder Boys as well unfortunately, holding a double-digit lead until under a minute to go in the game. The Weevils began knocking down shots late, trailing ATU only 88-83 with 00:18 seconds left in the contest. The Wonder Boys however knocked down free throws down the stretch to take the game at 92-86.

UAM was led on offense by junior Cobe Goosby who totaled a career-high in a Weevil uniform 27 points. Goosby added five rebounds, one assist, one steal, and three made three-pointers to his stat-line as well. 

Four other Weevils finished the night in double-figures including Karim Mawuenyega with 17 points, Tyrin Jones had 13, Derylton Hill with 11, and Vicktor Arnick added 10 points. Arnick posted his first double-double of the year adding 10 overall rebounds, and led UAM in assists with five as well. 

Final team statistics in the match-up for the Weevils included 49 percent shooting from the field (33-for-68), 41 percent on three-pointers (7-for-17), and 72 percent on foul shots (13-for-18). The Wonder Boys finished the game shooting 53 percent (29-for-55) from the field, 46 percent on three's (13-for-28), and 68 percent from the free throw line (21-for-31).

Arkansas-Monticello will return to action next this Saturday, February 18 as the Weevils take on GAC foe Ouachita on Senior Day as it will be the last home contest of the 2016-17 season for UAM with tip-off scheduled for 4 p.m.
