@WEEVILSBASEBALL DROP NON-CONFERENCE MATCH-UP AGAINST UNION

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was defeated Wednesday afternoon by Union University by a final score of 19-8 at home at Weevils Field.

UAM (2-5) found itself down early 5-1 to the Bulldogs of Union (7-1) in the third inning, but a strong comeback by the Weevils captured the lead heading to the top of the fourth.

Lathan McFadden began the bottom half of the third inning with a home run deep to left field, and this was followed by a burst of offense by Arkansas-Monticello. Andres Rios, Sean Wagner, and Drake Rowton each recorded RBI hits in the inning to give UAM the 6-5 lead. McFadden capped off the inning with another plate appearance with a single to left, which brought in two more runs.

The bats for the Weevils unfortunately went cold as the game progressed, and Union continued to put runs on the board. The Bulldogs ultimately scored 19 total runs in the match-up on 21 hits, compared to UAM's eight runs scored and 12 overall hits in the game.

Notable statistics on the day for Arkansas-Monticello included Andres Rios and Brian Ray each recorded one stolen base in the contest, and pitcher Nicholas Duthu threw one scoreless inning of relief, and struck out one batter as well.

The Weevils return to the field next on Friday, February 17 as UAM travels to Ada, Oklahoma to face Great American Conference opponent East Central in a three-game series with first pitch in game one at 2:00 p.m.
