BENTONVILLE, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team swept day two of the UAM 8-State Classic with wins over Minnesota-Mankato (3-1), and against Wayne State (9-1).
In game number one on the day for Arkansas-Monticello (5-3) against Minnesota State (6-2), the Blossoms got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning after a sacrifice fly by Kendra Coleman scored a run, and a throwing error by MSU saw another run cross the plate for UAM for the early advantage.
Coleman continued to provide the offensive power for the Blossoms in this contest after a fourth inning home-run to left field gave Arkansas-Monticello a 3-0 lead over the Mavericks. Despite a MSU run scored in the top of the sixth, Coleman went on to finish the game and earn her fourth straight victory in the circle, putting her at 4-0 overall.
The second contest of the day for UAM against the Wildcats of Wayne State (1-3) saw WSC with an early 1-0 lead after the first inning. The Blossoms generated plenty of offense in the bottom of the second however, as Meagan Duchesne, Brittany Gentry, Jordan Herbner, McKenzie Rice, and Maranda Clendenin all recorded RBI hits to put UAM out in front 6-1 over the Wildcats.
Arkansas-Monticello added to its lead in the bottom of the fourth after Korie Parker and Kali Bolter each recorded RBI singles to left field to give UAM the 8-1 advantage. The game ended after five innings as Skyler Anderson scored on a wild pitch to put the Blossoms up eight total runs to seal the victory.
The Blossoms hit the field once again tomorrow, Sunday, February 19 as the UAM finishes up the 8-State Classic with Upper Iowa at 11 a.m. and concludes the day with Washburn University at 1 p.m.
