BENTONVILLE, Arkansas — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team split the final day of the 8-State Classic with a win over Upper Iowa University (8-0), and a loss against Washburn University (6-0).
In the first game of the day for UAM (6-4) versus Upper Iowa (1-5), the Blossoms started the match-up with a bang as Kendra Coleman and Kaylee Freeman each recorded home-runs in the first and second inning to give UAM a 3-0 lead.
Arkansas-Monticello continued its scoring in the bottom of the fourth as Jordan Herbner, McKenzie Rice, and Maranda Clendenin each registered RBI hits to power UAM out to an 8-0 lead over Upper Iowa and ultimately took the game in five innings.
The second contest of the day for the Blossoms against Washburn University (7-10), UAM struggled offensively against the Ichabods, only recording two hits in the match-up from Brittany Gentry and Jordan Herbner.
WU opened up the ballgame with two runs in the first inning with a two-run double to right field. Washburn added four more runs in the top of the seventh to seal the game off at 6-0 over the Blossoms.
Arkansas-Monticello will hit the field next on Friday, February 24, as the Blossoms will travel to Durant, Oklahoma to square off against Southeastern Oklahoma State in a four-game Great American Conference series with game one to start at 1 p.m.
