MONTICELLO - The University of Arkansas at Monticello women's basketball team took down Great American Conference opponent Henderson State by a final score of 81-73.
UAM (10-10, 7-9 GAC) battled back against the Reddies of Henderson State (8-14, 7-9 GAC) after being down double-digits at the half. The Blossoms staged a massive third quarter comeback that included out scoring HSU 32-12 in the period. Arkansas-Monticello surged ahead in the second half after five third quarter three-pointers gave UAM a lead over its visiting opponent. The Blossoms continued its dominance in the fourth quarter, never losing the lead against the Reddies to seal the 81-73 GAC victory.
Arkansas-Monticello was led on the offensive side of the ball by sophomore Ayesha Wahid with 20 total points on 7-of-9 shooting from the floor. Wahid also totaled three assists, two rebounds, and one block in the match-up as well.
Multiple other Blossoms found themselves in double-digit scoring which included Treasure Evans (17), Taylor Collins (14), and Nelsha Peterson (13). Evans led UAM in overall rebounds also with seven boards, and Brittnee Broadway led the Blossoms in the assists column after dishing out eight.
Final team statistics for Arkansas-Monticello included shooting 52 percent (28-for-54) from the field, 57 percent (8-for-14) on trey's, and 74 percent (17-for-23) on free throws. HSU finished the night shooting 47 percent (28-for-60) overall, 28 percent on three's (7-for-25), and 91 percent (10-for-11) from the charity stripe.
The Blossoms will return to action next on Saturday, February 11 as UAM travels to Searcy, Arkansas to face GAC foe Harding University with tip-off scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
