ALVA, Oklahoma — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team split the day against Great American Conference opponent Northwestern Okla. State on the road with final scores of 1-0 in favor of UAM, and a 3-2 loss.
Game one for UAM (15-9, 9-5 GAC) featured a close game between the visiting Blossoms and the Rangers of Northwestern (7-21, 5-11 GAC) as Arkansas-Monticello recorded the sole run of the contest in the top of the first inning with a Maranda Clendenin double to left to bring home Ashton Currey.
Kendra Coleman (10-2) went on to shut down NWOSU, throwing a complete game in her 10th victory, only allowing four hits, one walk and striking out five.
The second match-up of the afternoon saw a pitchers duel between these two programs as the game would head into extra innings, and remain scoreless until the top of the 12th.
McKenzie Rice singled up the middle in the top of the 12th inning to bring home Aubree Head and gave Arkansas-Monticello the 1-0 lead.
Northwestern tied up the game in the bottom half of the inning, and Clendenin was able to give UAM back the lead with a home-run to left field in the following inning to give the Blossoms the 2-1 advantage. NWOSU however rallied and scored two runs in the bottom of the 13th inning to secured the win.
Arkansas-Monticello will return to action next on Tuesday, March 21 as UAM will host Delta State in a non-conference doubleheader at Blossoms Field with first pitch in game one set for 1 p.m.
