@UAMSOFTBALL SPLITS DOUBLEHEADER WITH DELTA STATE

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team split a doubleheader with non-conference opponent Delta State at Blossoms Field Tuesday afternoon, with a game one loss of 1-0 and a game two win at 4-0.

The first match-up for the Blossoms (16-10) saw the Lady Statesmen of DSU (12-16) jump on the scoreboard first in the opening inning with a RBI double to give the visitors the 1-0 lead.

UAM went on to struggle offensively in this contest as the Blossoms only generated two hits throughout, from both McKenzie Rice and Kendra Coleman, as Arkansas-Monticello would be downed by a final score of 1-0.

Kendra Coleman (10-3) threw a full 7.0 innings in the game, allowing just one run, five hits, and recorded six strikeouts.

Game number two featured much of the same from both squads until a fourth inning Coleman solo home-run shot life in the the Blossoms offense.

The following inning Korie Parker sent a ball over the left field fence for a three-run home-run to give UAM the 4-0 advantage, which would be enough to seal the game off for the victory.

Arkansas-Monticello recorded six total hits in the contest with Skyler Anderson turning in a 2-for-2 day with one run scored.

Kaylee Freeman earned her second win of the season throwing a complete game shutout against DSU, only allowing three hits, one walk and struck out three batters.

The Blossoms return to action next on Sunday, March 26 as UAM will face Southwestern Oklahoma State, in a series that was originally scheduled for March 24-25, but was pushed back due to incoming inclement weather within the Monticello area. The day one doubleheader is now set to start at 1 p.m. and day two, Monday, March 27 will begin at 10 a.m.
