@UAMSOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM HENDERSON STATE

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team swept the day against Great American Conference opponent Henderson State Friday afternoon with two wins over the Reddies at 1-0, and 6-3.

The opening series match-up for UAM (22-10, 15-5 GAC) against HSU (16-18, 10-12 GAC) featured a pitchers duel as only five total hits were given up between the two teams over nine total innings.

This contest stretched into extra innings, where the Blossoms finally broke through on a hard hit fielder's choice by Kaylee Freeman, which brought home Kendra Coleman from third to take the game in a walk-off fashion.

Coleman (13-3) earned her 13th win of the season throwing all 9.0 innings in the contest, allowing just three hits, and struck out six overall.

The second game of the day between these two squads was just the opposite of the first as HSU scored first to open up the ballgame.

UAM responded however scoring four total runs in the bottom half of the opening inning on a Meagan Duchesne grand slam home-run to right field.

After surrendering two runs in the top of the fifth, Arkansas-Monticello sealed the game off in the bottom of the sixth with a McKenzie Rice home-run to deep center field, which put the game at 6-3, and put the Blossoms' winning streak at seven in a row.

Kaylee Freeman (5-4) picked up her fourth straight victory, throwing a complete game, only allowing one earned run and recorded three strikeouts.

The Blossoms will return to the field tomorrow, Saturday, April 1, as UAM will host the Reddies of Henderson State to conclude the series with a doubleheader, with a game time of 1 p.m.
