ARKADELPHIA, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was downed by Henderson State in a Great American Conference match-up Friday evening by a final score of 2-1.
The opening series game for the Weevils (17-12, 13-6 GAC) against the Reddies of HSU (19-10, 13-6 GAC) saw UAM on the board first in the opening inning of the match-up after a Brian Ray single to center field brought in Nick Piraino for the 1-0 lead.
Henderson State however responded scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and was able to hold onto that lead for the remainder of the game.
Grant Black (5-3) threw 8.0 total innings allowing just three hits, two runs, and recorded five strikeouts in the match-up.
Sean Wagner, and Andres Rios each recorded the other two hits for UAM in this contest as well.
Arkansas-Monticello returns to action tomorrow, Saturday, April 1, as the Weevils will conclude the series with Henderson State in a doubleheader with game one set to start at 1 p.m.
