MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team took down GAC opponent Arkansas Tech Saturday afternoon at home by a final score of 3-1, and took the overall series over the Wonder Boys at 2-1.
The Weevils (25-13, 20-7 GAC) jumped onto the scored first against the Wonder Boys (26-16, 20-7 GAC) on senior day in the bottom of the second inning after Austin Brakebill singled to center field to see senior Alex Smith cross the plate for the go ahead run.
ATU tied up the ballgame in the fourth, but UAM found an answer yet again against Arkansas Tech in the bottom of the fifth inning, starting with senior Nick Piraino singling up the middle to score Smith, which was then followed by a Brian Ray sacrifice fly to left field to score Brakebill giving the Weevils the 3-1 edge.
Braden Chambers (W, 6-2) started for UAM throwing a complete game of 9.0 innings, only allowing one earned run, and recorded seven strikeouts in the match-up.
Both Brakebill and Smith recorded multi-hit days as well with Austin going 3-for-3 in the game with one run scored and one RBI, and Alex hitting 2-for-4 on the day with one run scored as well.
Arkansas-Monticello will be back in action next on Wednesday, April 19 as the Weevils face non-conference foe Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi with first pitch set for 6 p.m.
