SEARCY, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was taken down by Great American Conference adversary Harding University on the road by a final score of 9-4 Sunday afternoon.
The Weevils (25-15, 20-8 GAC) got onto the scoreboard first in the opening inning against the Bisons of HU (18-24, 12-16 GAC) with a Sean Wagner single up the middle to see Nick Piraino cross the plate for the 1-0 lead.
Harding went on to score five unanswered runs until the top of the fifth inning when Wagner sent a ball over the left field wall for a three-run home run, cutting into the Bisons lead at 5-4.
Arkansas-Monticello unfortunately surrendered four additional runs, two in the bottom of the fifth, and two in the bottom of the eighth to ultimately fall against Harding, 9-4.
Wagner led UAM at the plate going 3-for-4 with one run scored, one home run, and four runs batted in.
Grant Black started on the mound in the match-up, throwing 4.2 innings and recorded two strikeouts. Landon McFadden, Drake Streeter, and Michael Harrison would all come in on relief in the remainder of the contest as well for UAM.
The Weevils will return to the field tomorrow, Monday, April 24, as UAM will take on Harding in a GAC doubleheader in Searcy, Arkansas to close out the series with game one set for 1 p.m.
