MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello softball team split the day against #2 Harding University in a GAC doubleheader at Blossoms Field with a win of 4-0, and a loss at 12-3.
The opening match-up for UAM (32-18, 25-13 GAC) versus Harding University (46-6, 36-4 GAC) saw the Blossoms on the board in the first inning with a Maranda Clendenin double to center field which brought home McKenzie Rice.
Arkansas-Monticello added to its lead in the top of the fifth inning as Kendra Coleman singled to third to score Jordan Herbner for the 2-0 lead.
Rice later sealed the game off in the following inning with a two-run single to center field to give UAM the 4-0 advantage.
Coleman (W, 19-6) threw a complete game of 7.0 scoreless innings, only allowing five hits, and recorded six strikeouts in the victory.
Game number two between the Blossoms and the Bisons featured Harding recording a run in each inning of this six inning contest. HU started the game off scoring seven unanswered runs through five innings.
UAM recorded its first run of the contest in the bottom of the fifth on a Rice single to left field. The Blossoms notched two additional runs in the sixth inning on RBI hits from Ashton Currey and Aubree Head, but ultimately fell in the game 12-3.
Kaylee Freeman began in the circle as she threw 3.0 total innings in the game, with Alyson Finnigan, Sara Squires, and Paisley Pratt all making relief appearances throughout the match-up as well.
Arkansas-Monticello will return to action next on Friday, April 28, as the Blossoms will host East Central University in a GAC doubleheader at Blossoms Field with game one scheduled for 1 p.m.
