FORT SMITH, Ark. — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team was defeated by Arkansas-Fort Smith in a non-conference match-up on the road by a final score of 6-1.
The Weevils (26-17, 21-9 GAC) road contest against the Lions of UAFS (26-16, 13-5 Heartland) saw Arkansas-Fort Smith score first in the bottom half of the opening inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
UAM was able to tie up the ballgame in the sixth inning on an Austin Brakebill sacrifice fly to right field which brought home Alex Smith to see the game knotted up at 1-1.
Unfortunately the Lions scored five unanswered runs in the remainder of the contest to see UAFS take a 6-1 lead and seal the game off for the win.
Smith led Arkansas-Monticello offensively going 2-for-4 in the ballgame with one walk, one run, and one triple.
Drake Streeter started on the mound for UAM, throwing 5.2 innings, allowing two earned runs, and recording two strikeouts. Landon McFadden, and Jared Libke each came in to make relief appearances as well.
Arkansas-Monticello will return to action next on Friday, April 28, as the Weevils will take on Great American Conference opponent Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Arkansas with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
