@WEEVILSBASEBALL ADVANCES IN GAC TOURNAMENT WITH WIN OVER SOSU

MONTICELLO — The University of Arkansas at Monticello baseball team took down Southeastern Oklahoma State in game two of the opening round series of the GAC Tournament by a final score of 6-5.

Game number two of this best of three GAC post-season series saw UAM (29-19, 22-11 GAC) down early to the Savage Storm (16-29-1, 13-17 GAC) in the top of the first inning with SOSU on the board with a sacrifice fly.

The Weevils answered back in the bottom of the second as Brady Weiss singled to right field to bring in a run and tie up the game. Sean Wagner later knocked in a run on a ground out to give UAM the 2-1 edge.

The fourth inning saw Arkansas-Monticello open up its scoring margin beginning with Nick Piraino hitting into a fielder's choice to bring home a run. A few batters later Weiss drew a walk to see another run cross the plate.

Wagner continued the Weevil offensive attack in the fourth with a RBI single to left field, and Andres Rios capped off the scoring with a sac fly giving UAM the 6-1 advantage.

Despite a Southeastern comeback throughout the rest of the game, Arkansas-Monticello was able to hold on for the victory at 6-5, and take the series as well.

Braden Chambers (W, 8-3) got the start on the mound as he threw 6.1 total innings, allowing three hits, and totaled eight strikeouts in the match-up for the win.

Michael Harrison came on to throw 1.2 innings in relief, only giving up one hit and recorded one strikeout. Landon McFadden (S, 4) earned himself the save throwing the final inning of the contest, and struck out one batter.

UAM will return to action on Thursday, May 11 as the Weevils will face either Arkansas Tech or Harding to open the GAC Championship Tournament Final Four round in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.
