Batesville, Ark. - The University of Arkansas at Monticello volleyball team defeated Lyon College to open up the 2017 season on the road by a final score of 3-2.
- Final game scores from the match were 25-22, 25-13, 19-25, 27-29 and 16-14 in favor of the Blossoms.
- Arkansas-Monticello improves overall to 1-0 (0-0 GAC)
- Lyon College falls to 1-5 overall
- Lyon led 11-9 before the Blossoms record three straight kills to retake the lead at 12-11. UAM went on to create three additional three point runs before winning the set 25-22 after two Lyon College ball handling errors.
- Arkansas-Monticello generated a 7-0 run against the Fighting Scots to jump out to a 16-8 lead. UAM claimed set two 25-13, after an 8-2 run, and a final set kill from Maggie Pyles.
- Despite each team creating small runs throughout the set, Lyon College went on to score five straight points to win set three 25-19.
- The Blossoms held a 14-11 lead midway through the set, but the Scots slowly chipped away at the lead and ultimately took the fourth set 29-27, with each squad battling late into the set.
- The Blossoms jumped out to a 4-0 lead to start the final set of the match, but Lyon countered with three straight points of its own. UAM ultimately took the final set and the match after errors from the Scots, and a final kill from Laurene Cushinberry to take the set 16-14, and the match at 3-2.
- Senior Macy Mitchell recorded a team high 25 digs
- Junior Shayna Daniels tallied a match high 29 total assists
- Sophomore Maggie Pyles led the Blossoms in overall kills with 15
- Junior Kassidy Pomeroy added 12 kills in the victory as well

Arkansas-Monticello will head to Memphis, Tennessee next to compete in the Christian Brothers Invitational this Friday, and Saturday where they will square off against non-conference opponents Assumption College, Tiffin University, Christian Brothers University, and Newman University.
